Some moments in a community journey feel more special than others, and for me, presenting for the first time ever at the Cloud Native Meetup in Valencia #6 is one of them. On October 1st at 6:00 pm, I’ll have the opportunity to join the Cloud Native Valencia community and share some of my experience with this great community.
From Experience to Change: Looking Forward to Cloud Native Valencia
In fact, the continuous application development and operations evolution does not simply impact the technology but implies a huge change in organization and culture (I don’t mean the kind of “culture” that HR puts into a presentation): how people work, how teams collaborate, how decisions are made, how responsibilities change, and how difficult it can sometimes be to move away from concepts that have been around for years.
Because technology doesn’t modernize an organization by itself. Sometimes, it simply gives us the gears we need to move old concepts into a new way of developing and delivering applications.
Modernizing the Kubernetes Application Lifecycle with GitOps, Terraform, Vault & AI
I’ll be taking a hands-on journey through the application lifecycle, looking at how we can move from traditional approaches towards a more automated and modern way of delivering applications on Kubernetes. We’ll touch on technologies such as Terraform, GitOps, and Vault, and explore how they can work together to simplify infrastructure and application delivery.
We’ll also take a look at some of the possibilities emerging from the combination of AI and cloud-native platforms.
The important part of the session isn’t going to be a collection of tools or a series of code snippets. It’s about the journey, especially when the decisions behind the technology are trying to solve the problem and, at the same time, address the friction between developers and platform teams. And, of course, there will be a few things to discover live during the session.
Sharing the stage with Pietro
I’m also particularly happy to share the evening with my friend Pietro Piutti. Pietro and I have already shared organization and stages in the past, including our contributions to VMUG Italy UserCon.
But his influence on my journey goes well beyond events and presentations. Over the years, Pietro introduced me to many people from different communities and opened the door to relationships that had a real impact on my professional journey and I can honestly say that this helped me boost my career and, even more importantly, radically change the way I approach technology and community. So having the opportunity to share another event with him is something I’m particularly happy about.
Pietro will be presenting “Application Consistent Data Protection with Kanister and Veeam Kasten”, focusing on another fundamental aspect of running applications on Kubernetes: protecting application data and ensuring that workloads can be recovered consistently. While I’ll be looking at the journey towards deploying and operating applications, Pietro will explore what happens when we need to protect those applications and their data.
Because building a cloud-native application is only part of the story. Making it resilient and recoverable is just as important.
A new community, a new opportunity
What I’m looking forward to most is not only the technical side of the event: it’s the opportunity to meet people I haven’t met before, exchange ideas, and hear how others are approaching the challenges around Kubernetes, cloud-native platforms, and application delivery.
Every community has its own perspective, experiences, and stories to share, and that’s what makes these events so valuable.
I’m particularly happy that this will be my first opportunity to contribute to the Cloud Native Valencia community, and I’d like to send a big thank you to the organizers for the invitation and for creating this opportunity.
