As you may have noticed, the theme of blog.linoproject.net has changed! After some major upgrades, I’m excited to introduce new topics, channels, and platforms for sharing my content.

2025: The Year of AI-Driven Platforms

After 25 years in IT, my biggest challenge isn’t adapting to change—it’s leaving! That’s why I’ve decided to focus on Platform Engineering, which I see as the perfect marriage between infrastructure and application modernization. Alongside infrastructure automation, you’ll find software engineering tips aimed at helping development teams finally embrace Cloud-Native applications.

Today, platforms are at the core of corporate investments. Enhancing infrastructure automation and building an abstraction layer that allows applications to consume resources is no longer optional… it’s a necessity! Developers and third-party providers must embrace this shift to efficiently deliver cloud services.

Another trend shaking up the development space (and causing some discomfort) is using AI as the developer’s perfect co-worker during the code authoring phase. Much like Industry 4.0 predicted a symbiotic relationship between humans and machines, we are now witnessing the same transformation in software development. May AI completely substitute human code development? My answer is a big no! But AI can really accelerate the process without wasting time in the “simple” translation of fundamental algorithms and (finally) impose test-driven development as a foundation of code development.

Speaking of AI, a new player is making waves: DeepSeek, a Chinese startup, has sent shockwaves through Silicon Valley. Following the release of its R1 platform, NVIDIA’s stock closed with a significant 16% drop. What’s DeepSeek’s secret? Their innovative approach to enhancing reasoning capabilities in large language models (check out their research paper [here]).

This breakthrough has certainly caught my attention, and while I remain neutral just hours after the launch, some blog posts have already emerged, attempting to demystify this innovation. I genuinely appreciate their work on the model(s), but certain aspects still need clarification. In the meantime, I’d like to share a blog post that provides more insights.

Community and Influencer

Starting with the company that, back in 2015, allowed me to express myself, share knowledge, and grow within the community—VMware—the adventure continues! As you can see in this post, we’re kicking off 2025 by elevating the experience within this part of Broadcom’s community. A year full of learning, knowledge sharing, and new opportunities awaits, and I’m truly excited to contribute to this program with the same energy I brought in 2016! One thing remains certain—vCommunity is and will continue to be the beating heart of VMware by Broadcom.

TechFieldDay has always been—and continues to be—my go-to technical reference for both established companies and startups. In 2025, I’m eager to hear from several companies there, and, most importantly, I’m looking forward to the discussions with the delegates.

The upcoming Cloud Field Day 22 will feature some interesting companies, including Fortinet and InfoBlox, along with a strong delegate lineup. Although I’ll be participating, I’ll also be following the discussions behind the scenes. As always, if you have questions for the presenting companies, feel free to message me on Twitter or encourage a delegate to ask on your behalf!

Another community I’m actively involved in is the HashiCorp Users Group Italy. After a reboot in 2024, we’re kicking off 2025 with a series of meetups across Italy, starting next month in Milan (full details and registration here).

This community gives me the energy to express myself in the automation space. As a fan of Terraform and Vault (but also Vagrant and Packer), I’ve submitted a topic for HashiTalks 2025, a 24-hour, nonstop event featuring talks from HashiCorp community members worldwide… and I’m in! Details and the full agenda are available here.

2024 saw the rise of Platform Engineering, not only as an architectural approach but also (finally) as an established role! I was thrilled to connect with the MiaPlatform team, the creators of an amazing platform and automation service that significantly reduces the friction and complexity of consuming cloud-native infrastructure. They embrace the philosophy of low-code development and focus on improving DevX. I’ve joined the MiaPlatform Expert Community, and I’m excited to start this new journey in a vibrant community that now reflects my daily work.

Finally, let me close this post with the Italian podcast ThePipelineGuys, hosted by my good friend Manuel Coppotelli and me. We’re planning some exciting improvements in 2025, and most importantly, we’ll be announcing some cool guests!
